The growth Showa Precision Tools has witnessed during more than 60 years of service was achieved thanks to our clients. Through the accumulation of "Excellent Technologies" and "know-how", we aim at achieving the ultimate manufacturing in order to maximize our clients satisfaction.
Showa Precision Tools have manufactured punching and forming dies for magnetic disks (magnetic vapor deposited film), liners (non-woven fabric), shutters (SUS), and hubs (SUS).
For these dies, if the clearance is too wide the workpiece material fibers can get into the gap between the punch and the die, especially for liners which have fibers with a diameter of only a few microns. If it happened, the product and the scraps would then be connected, causing feed defects. Our clients used to use "caulking" in order to further reduce the clearance.
Caulking is a technique which consists in tapping the upper surface of the die near the punch entrance area in order to fill any gap.
This is often used during production as the clearance widens with usage of the die, which can be an issue. In some cases, manufacturers would only be able to run their press for 30mn, after what they would need to stop production for 1h in order to apply this caulking technique...
However we have been able to solve this problem thanks to our high precision parts machining and assembly technology, by conceiving and manufacturing a die which succeeded in maintaining a uniform clearance of 1 micron with dynamic precision.
This technology is also used in our battery electrode foil punching dies technology.

Driven Gear - Fine Blanking Product
[ What is a driven gear? ]
When two gears are meshed, the gear moved by the other one is called the "driven gear".
The other one is called the "drive gear".
The gears in the photo are for two-wheeled vehicles and are stamped with a fine blanking die.

[ Features ]
- The rectangular holes are just there to reduce the part weight and therefore the dimensional precision required is not so high. However, the gear part needs to have a 100% sheared surface and the profile of the involute part is also strictly controlled.
- The punch/die clearance is maintained at 10μm for the gear and the central hole.
- A V-shaped protrusion on the die is used in order to minimize the die-roll at less than 20%.
- A special radius is set on the dies cutting edges in order to reduce the burrs to a size where they can be removed in a separated process.
- The sides of the die and of the central hole punch are polished to a mirror finish, resulting in a surface roughness of the sheared surface also as smooth as a mirror.

[ Precision Progressive Press Die for Electron Guns G1 Holder ]
An electron gun is a device that forms and emits electron beams. It is rarely seen today, but it is found in cathode-ray tube televisions.
The beam emitted from the electron gun hits particles that emit red (R), green (G), and blue (B), the three primary colors of light. Many colors can be created with this process.
We have designed and manufactured a progressive die to form the holder part of such electron guns.
The Kovar material used for this part is difficult to form. Yet this is a part that requires a high degree of precision, with the positional accuracy of the three holes through which the beam passes and the flatness of the flange being less than 0.02mm.

In this article we will introduce a progressive die technology we have developed for the press forming of electrical contacts used in light electric and home appliances.
Progressive die stamping technology has been developed by Showa since its founding in 1954.
In addition to light electrical and home appliances, we also have developed this technology for the mass production of other products in various fields such as food containers, automobile parts, and medical equipment.
For contact-related parts used in home appliances and relays, clad material contacts are fed into the die from its front side and then tightened together into a single part with the copper skeleton piece which has been cut in a previous station of the die.
The structure which tightens the contacts fed into the die by the parts feeder is also provided by us.
Since the workpiece material (usually copper, aluminum, brass, etc.) are rather soft and can easily be scratched, the die has been designed to prevent any filings.

In a car, the "transmission" transmits the driving force from the engine to the wheels.
It is composed of gears and shafts of various sizes, and its "clutches" and "torque converter" are important to transmit the driving force.
The "clutch" is responsible for connecting and disconnecting the driving force by pushing on or separating two friction plates facing each other.
